BIRDS OF A FEATHER

SYNOPSIS
Birds of a Feather follows three college roommates, in different stages of healing from sexual violence. They are all stuck in survival mode. Aster is stuck in flight, Robin is in fight, and Maeve is in freeze. Together they confront their traumas, their coping mechanisms, and most of all, each other. In doing so, they help one another to further form their fledgling identities.
INSPIRATION
Birds of a Feather was first conceptualized for Andrew Clarke's playwriting class during my senior year at Emerson College. Professor Clarke's feedback has continued to be indispensable almost a decade later.

NYC STAGED READING
When Birds of a Feather was still a one act play, I put on a reading in a studio on St. Marks Place. The audience's curiosity and enthusiasm during the Q and A led me to expand the characters' arcs to create the second act of the show.
LA STAGED READING
In developing act two, I conceptualized a trilogy of plays. Each was to focus on the issues plaguing one of the roommates. The first was meant to focus on Aster and her desire to report what happened to her. Through the reading at The Zephyr on Melrose Ave, I realized all three plays would be most effective condensed into one. The current draft of Birds of a Feather is in progress with a full production in mind.
